Description Of Minirin 0.1 mg

Minirin 0.1Mg Tablet is used for the control, treatment and prevention of conditions such as bedwetting, diabetes insipidus, and Von willebrand’s disease. It works by limiting the amount of water eliminated through urination.

Do not use Minirin 0.1 Mg Tablet if you are allergic to any of the ingredients present in it. Before using Minirin 0.1 Mg Tablet tell your doctor if you are using any prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs, or other herbal and dietary pills and supplements, if you are pregnant and/or breastfeeding, if you have abnormal sodium/potassium blood levels, if you suffer from congestive heart failure, if you have coronary artery disease, if you have a history of migraine headaches, if you have abnormally high/low blood pressure, or if you have any upcoming surgeries. Also let your doctor know your history of medical problems, pre-existing diseases and current health conditions. Extreme caution should be taken while administering this medication to the elderly.

Minirin 0.1 mg Tablet is used in the treatment of diabetes insipidus and bed-wetting.

What is Minirin 0.1 mg?

DESMOPRESSIN are for oral use only. They are available in two strengths, 0.1mg and 0.2mg. The 0.1mg are white, oval, convex , scored on one side and engraved ‘0.1’ on the other side. The 0.2mg are white, round, convex , scored on one side and engraved ‘0.2’ on the other side. They contain Desmopressin acetate, an antidiuretic (reduces urine production). DESMOPRESSIN are used to treat: ?diabetes insipidus (extreme thirst and the continuous production of large volumes of dilute urine) IMPORTANT: This should not be confused with diabetes mellitus (sugar diabetes) ?post-hypophysectomy polyuria/polydipsia (extreme thirst and the continuous production of large volumes of dilute urine following surgical removal of the pituitary gland).

How Minirin 0.1 mg working

Minirin Melt 0.1 mg Tablet is a synthetic form of vasopressin (natural hormone that balances water). It works by causing reabsorption of water from the kidneys which controls excessive thirst and urination in diabetes insipidus. It also helps decrease night-time urine production and bedwetting in children. In addition to these, it reduces bleeding episodes by promoting the release of blood clotting factors.

How is Minirin 0.1 mg used?

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Minirin Melt 0.1 mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Minirin 0.1 mg Indications

Nasal/Oral forms: Use this medicine exactly as advised by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts than advised/prescribed. Consult the doctor if you experience any undesirable side effects. Ensure that the treatment course is completed. Do not stop the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor. Injectable forms: This medicine is generally used prior to a surgical procedure to reduce bleeding in patients suffering from hemophilia A and/or von Willebrand disease.

Minirin 0.1 mg Dosage

Missed Dose

Nasal and oral forms: If a dose is missed, take/administer it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take/administer the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one. Injectable forms: Since this medicine is usually administered in the hospital/clinical setting by a qualified healthcare professional, the likelihood of missing a dose is very low.

Overdose

Nasal and oral forms: Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose. Injectable forms: Since this medicine is usually administered in the hospital/clinical setting by a qualified healthcare professional, the likelihood of an overdose is very low. However, emergency medical treatment will be initiated by your doctor if an overdose is suspected.

Adverse effects Of Minirin 0.1 mg

The most commonly reported side effects when taking Minirin tablets 0.1mg include hyponatraemia (low blood sodium), which may cause headache, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation weight increase, dizziness, confusion, malaise; also oedema, fatigue.

Special Precautions And Related Warnings Of Minirin 0.1 mg

Pregnancy - This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking/receiving this medicine.

Breast-feeding - This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking/receiving this medicine.

Fluid restriction - This medicine may lead to water intoxication and/or very low blood sodium levels which may be fatal in some patients. Hence, fluid restriction is recommended during treatment with this medicine, especially when the medicine is not used to control increased urination. Report any symptoms such as a headache, nausea, vomiting, weight gain, restlessness, fatigue, lethargy, disorientation, depressed reflexes, loss of appetite, irritability, muscle weakness, muscle spasms or cramps, hallucinations, decreased levels of consciousness, confusion, etc. to the doctor immediately. Close monitoring of blood sodium levels, appropriate patient/caregiver counseling, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Type IIB von Willebrand’s disease - This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from type IIB Von Willebrand disease due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Appropriate diagnostic tests should be done to determine the type of Von Willebrand disease prior to beginning therapy with this medicine. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Storage Conditions for Minirin 0.1 mg

You should store your Minirin tablets 0.1mg below 25°C in a cool dry place.
